90 - Riding Through Thick & Thin

Many if not most women have been locked in a battle with their bodies for as long as they can remember. And when it comes to riding horses, they drag their arsenal of self-doubt with them every time they step into the saddle. Some quit riding completely. Others ride, but are frustrated by their lack of progress as riders or what they see as poor performance. They succumb to silent self-torment as they wonder how they look, what others think, and whether they have any business on the back of a horse if their jeans feel a little too tight.

Listen to Melinda's interview as she shares excerpts from her latest book.

Centauride Riding for DV Awareness

The Centauride:Riding for DV Awareness is a four year horseback journey around the US to raise awareness and support for domestic violence victims and survivors.  Meredith Cherry and her palomino horse Apollo will travel to 49 capitals and countless Domestic Violence centers, women’s shelters, schools and community centers to bring awareness about this “silent epidemic” and to provide hope to women dealing with the effects of DV in their own lives.

Meredith and Apollo will be travelling on a planned route of approximately 14,000 miles.  This will be the 1st ride to all 48 states to be made by a woman... and the 3rd attempt ever (two similar rides were successfully completed in early 1900’s).  They are scheduled to begin this epic journey on October 1, 2016 and complete the ride in 2020.  Their extensive preparations have been going on for over two years already, including training, fitness, planning, and otherwise working to be prepared for a horseback ride that will take as long as earning a college degree, over a route of 5 times the coast-to-coast distance.

Meredith has been riding horses for 20 years, and has a B.S. in Equine Science from Colorado State University.  She is a DV survivor.  Her experiences working as a wrangler in the Colorado Rockies and horse trekking in India should help her be prepared for the challenges and conditions she and Apollo will be facing on this journey.

Apollo is a 7 year old Peruvian Paso-Mustang palomino gelding.  He is being trained using Parelli Natural Horsemanship techniques. He is excellent at liberty work on the ground, such as following Meredith without a lead rope through obstacle courses in arena. He is extremely clever and has the spirit, stamina and smarts needed to travel this great distance.

Please support Meredith through her blog-http://www.centauride.org.

079- How to Balance Your Horse

The Balanced Horse Project™ recognizes the lack of answers, research, and resolutions referring to the conflicted horse. Natural, positive body changes, using empirical standards of investigation, research, and double blind testing, validated theories forming facts.

Founder, Patricia Cleveland merged her equestrian interests with experience, experimentation, and study, to define the independent science of Equilology™. Removing artificial elements and utilizing organic resources to transform injured or traumatized horses. Advanced body improvements beyond established standards required further investigation.

Patricia is an innovative thinker, who has developed her own system of universal body balancing. Techniques and protocols reshape the understanding of  the self-healing body. Releasing the physical stress promotes resistant free relationships.

Patricia instinctively knows how to positively influence a horse in work, without the use of artificial means; drugs, shoes, or expensive equipment. Watching her work, defies logic while illustrating a connection using invisible words shared with intelligent self-aware animals, who know exactly where it hurts.

078- Healing with Essential Oils

Crystal Parrot is a distributor for Young Living Essential Oils. The Young Living Company produces essential oils that are natural home remedies and are great for use as alternative medicine. These essential oils offer a remedy for everything from migraines and back pain to fever and sickness.  By using these natural home remedies, you can ensure you’re participating in your new vivacious lifestyle. With these alternative medicines, anything is possible.

One of the treatments used on people and horses is the raindrop technique. The Raindrop Technique is a relaxing therapeutic procedure where essential oils are dropped six inches onto your hooves, spine and neck. Because the oils are dropped onto the skin like raindrops, that is how this technique got its name. This is a very relaxing procedure that pushes out occasional stress and minor anxiety that a horse may experience from everyday overwork and fatigue. The essential oils connect with the electric field of the individual as the drops penetrate through the pores of the skin. This allows the enhancement of the oils’ electromagnetic properties to gently soothe away tension and helps relax muscles. This technique is a form of homeopathy that was created by Gary D. Young.
